Weekend Recap: Monday Morning Links
The Civil War was a bit more of a war than Oregon was hoping for this weekend. They came out on top of OSU for the sixth year in a row, but only by a score of 36-35 that came late in the game.
The Ducks took the 1:38 they had left to drive down the field in 9 plays led by QB Marcus Mariota to beat the Beavers. The Ducks are now looking toward the Alamo Bowl against a Big 12 opponent while the Beavers are just barely bowl eligible at 6-6. [SB Nation]
Here’s what happened for the rest of the area’s teams:
- The Blazers started what could be another win streak Sunday night against the Los Angeles Lakers in their first road win against LA in seven tries, dating back to April 2012. The 114-108 win came with the help of LaMarcus Aldridge’s 27 points. Their 11 game win streak was broken in Phoenix last Wednesday night. [ESPN]
- The Winterhawks overcame a 3-goal deficit Sunday night to beat the Saskatoon Blades 6-5 after Nic Petan had 4 goals. This was the second straight game a Winterhawk scored a hat trick, Oliver Bjorkstrand had one Friday in their 6-3 win over Spokane. [KPTV]
- University of Portland Pilots’ men’s and women’s basketball teams came out on top of their opponents this weekend. The women beat Columbia 58-42 led by junior Kari Luttinen who had a season high 20 points. The men cruised past Southern Utah in a 86-57 win, after having as much as a 35 point lead late in the game. - No. 1 Jesuit and No. 3 Central Catholic will face off in the high school state finals of 6A football next weekend on Jeld-Wen Field after both teams crushed their opponents this weekend in the semifinals. Jesuit beat Canby 35-17 and Central Catholic routed Tigard 83-49. [OregonLive]
