Everett Silvertips dismantle Winterhawks 5-1

Everett

The Portland Winterhawks fell 5-1 to the Everett Silvertips Saturday at the Moda Center in front of 6,324 fans.

Everett opened the scoring at the 10:13 mark of the first on a goal by Graham Millar, followed at the 14:32 mark by a goal from Carson Stadnyk as the visitors took a 2-0 lead. Kohl Bauml then scored at the 16:42 mark to give Everett a 3-0 advantage.

Portland got one back on a power play with under a minute to go in the period when Chase De Leo went hard to the net and put the puck past netminder Austin Lotz to cut the deficit to 3-1 heading into the second.

After a scoreless second period, the Hawks had the Silvertips pinned in their own end midway through the third, but the puck came loose and Everett’s Stadnyk went the other way and scored his second of the game for a 4-1 lead at the 11:41 mark. The Silvertips added a late power play goal from Tyler Sandhu to finish with a 5-1 win.

The Hawks were again without Oliver Bjorkstrand (Columbus Blue Jackets) and Nic Petan (Winnipeg Jets), who remain at their NHL training camps.

The two teams meet again tomorrow at 5 p.m. in the Moda Center.
