USSSA Kickball Championship Recap

OregonUSSSA

The 1st USSSA Tourney was Saturday, and if you missed it, you are -1 for good experiences in life. It was a good day for Kickball and it brought out a variety of teams from the Recesstime, Underdog and Oregon Kickball Club leagues.

There were two pools for the 8 teams. Pool A had some of the most difficult teams in Portland Kickball, making it kickball’s version of the ‘Group Of Death’. The pool included Ballz Deep, a physically gifted team; Ball Hugz and Harmony, a team with 50+ years of combined Kickball experience; Another BAD Creation, a perennial contender in Recesstime and Oregon Kickball Club; and Kickball Whores United, an Underdog midcore-level powerhouse.

Earlier in the day BAD had beaten Whores 3-1, putting KWU’s record at 0-3 to enter the single-elimination brackets.  But the Whores raked and clawed their way up to the championship game, and had a second chance for redemption against BAD.  In the end though, it was Another BAD Creation that took the championship with a score of 2-1 to chants of “A-B-C-1-2-3”.  They overcame injuries and early losses to prove they had the mettle against the scrappy Whores.

All in all, it was what I hoped it would be. It was a tournament with paid refs and a neutral ruleset, so that all the teams had equal footing. You can see the final bracket here as well as the overall results here.

So, kickballers, R.I.C.E. up those ankles.  And a special thanks to all the referees and other staff of USSSA for helping make this tournament a win for Portland Kickball.
