Hawks Fall 4-2 in Preseason Finale
The Portland Winterhawks fell 4-2 to the Red Deer Rebels Saturday, as they finish the preseason with a record of 4-1.
The Rebels took a 2-0 lead in the first period on a power play goal by Cole Chorney at the 8:04 mark, followed late in the period by a goal from former Hawk Presten Kopeck.
The Hawks got on the board 6:54 into the second period when Paul Bittner scored his third goal of the preseason to cut the deficit to 2-1. However, the Rebels struck back with goals from Adam Musil and Wyatt Johnson to take a 4-1 lead into the third.
The Hawks applied pressure throughout the third, and Skyler McKenzie cut Red Deer’s lead to 4-2 at the 17:00 mark. However, that was as close as they’d get, as the Rebels finished with the 4-2 win.
The Hawks open the regular season on Friday, September 19 at 7 p.m. against the Seattle Thunderbirds in the Moda Center.
