The Portland Winterhawks defeated the Edmonton Oil Kings 3-1 Sunday at Veterans Memorial Coliseum.

The win was Portland’s second in three games over the last four days, and they’ve now won six of their last nine overall.

The Hawks scored the lone goal of the first at the 12:13 mark when Dominic Turgeon took a feed from Blake Heinrich and made a move around goaltender Tristan Jarry to score his fourth of the season.

Portland made it 2-0 at the 11:00 mark of the second when Evan Weinger tipped a shot from Keoni Texeira past Jarry for his fourth goal of the season. With just 8.2 seconds to go in the frame and the Hawks on a power play, Chase De Leo pounced on a rebound at the side of the net and scored to make it 3-0 going into the third period.

Edmonton got on the board at the 14:05 mark of the third on a goal by Brandon Baddock to cut Portland’s lead to 3-1, which stood as the final score.

Michael Bullion earned his second career win as a Winterhawk in as many nights, turning away 32 of 33 shots he faced. Jarry allowed three goals on 19 Portland shots for the Oil Kings.

Tonight’s game was a rematch of the last three WHL championship series, with Portland winning the title in 2013 and Edmonton doing so in 2012 and 2014.

The Hawks (7-10-0-2) are back in action Friday when they host the Red Deer Rebels at the Moda Center.
