Wheat Kings throttle Winterhawks 10-3

The Portland Winterhawks fell 10-3 in Brandon Saturday to the Wheat Kings.

Brandon took a 3-0 first period lead on goals from Rihards Bukarts, Ivan Provorov and Nolan Patrick.

Jayce Hawryluk extended their lead to 4-0 3:16 into the third, at which point the Hawks brought Bolton Pouliot in to replace Brendan Burke in net. Chase De Leo got the Hawks on the board less than a minute later to make it 4-1, but Hawryluk scored again shortly after that for a 5-1 lead. De Leo answered back at the 8:56 mark with a power play goal, but Brandon responded with markers from Peter Quenneville and Reid Duke for a 7-2 lead after two periods.

Brandon opened the third with Hawryluk scoring his third of the night less than a minute into the frame. Dominic Turgeon scored for the Hawks at the 8:19 mark, but was followed by Hawryluk’s fourth of the night and a late goal from Kale Clague as Brandon came away with the 10-3 win.

The Hawks continue their trip through the East Division Tuesday when they take on the Regina Pats.
