A sweep in the first round of the playoffs has the Winterhawks hosting the Victoria Royals in the second round.

The Winterhawks finished their sweep with a 6-1 victory, pushing their win-streak to 11. Derrick Pouliot got his 47th career playoff point in the game, tying the franchise record. [Winterhawks]

Here’s what happened for the rest of the area’s teams:

  • The Timbers suffered a tough 2-1 loss to FC Dallas, dropping the team to 0-2-2 on the season. The game had many highlights, including dominating possession, but they couldn’t find the net enough to get their first 2014 win. [OregonLive]
  • Playoff dreams are alive and well for the Blazers, who currently hold the 5th spot and have a narrow chance at the 4th seed. Golden State is two games back from the Blazers and with only a handful of games left the Blazers just need to maintain their momentum to stay where they are in the hunt. With LaMarcus Aldridge now back on the court, the bench has also been stepping up and playing much more productively than they have all season. [ESPN]
  • The Thunder’s second game of the season proved to be a beacon of what will hopefully be an upward swing. The Thunder fell 40-34 to Iowa, but mounted a strong comeback after only scoring 9 points in the first half. [Thunder]
