The Winterhawks hit the 50-win milestone this weekend with their 4-1 victory over Vancouver.

This is the second season in a row that the Hawks hit the 50-win mark and are now 50-13-2-3 this season. The Hawks are finishing up the season this week and are still in second place in the Western Conference, already having clinched a playoff spot. [Winterhawks]

Here’s what happened for the rest of the area’s teams:

  • The Timbers opened their season with a 1-1 draw against the Philadelphia Union on Saturday. Their newest member, Gaston Fernandez, gave the Timbers the goal they needed to avoid a loss. Also this weekend, Timber’s coach Caleb Porter was named Sportsperson of the Year at the Oregon Sports Awards. The award is given to any outstanding coach from any level of competition. [OregonLive]
  • Late-game execution seems to be plaguing the Trailblazers once again. The loss to Dallas on Friday was the latest loss the Blazers sustained after leading in the final two minutes. After five wins in a row, the Blazers lost to the Lakers, beat the Hawks, lost to the Mavericks and lost to the Rockets this week. They are 4 games behind the Thunder and 42-21 on the season. [ESPN]
  • High school basketball began it’s first weekend of state title games with 3A Valley Catholic beating De La Salle 62-50 with senior Gabe Taylor at the helm, 2A- Irrigon beating Oakland 42-21 receiving their first title, and 1A- Columbia Christian beat Horizon Christian 68-49. [OregonLive]
