Oregon might be known as the Home of the Ducks and Beavers in the world of college football. And we’re technically in Seahawks’ territory according to the NFL. But the Rose City actually has a professional football team of its own.

The Portland Fighting Fillies: a pro team made up of the best female players around.

That’s right: female.

filliesTomorrow marks their final home game as the Fillies host the Portland Shockwave — Portland’s other all-women pro football squad. The Fillies (5-1) face off against a similarly successful Shockwave squad (4-2) Saturday at Milwaukie High School.

This is the team’s second time meeting this season. The Fillies were victorious in the first game, and are looking forward to another competitive and exciting matchup.

“We are excited to continue promoting women’s football,” said Head Coach Asia Wisecarver, “and representing the city of Portland as a team of women dedicated to playing good football with great sportsmanship and pride.”

According to the Fighting Fillies’ website, the team is a dedicated group of women from all walks of life:

The team ranges from age 18-45 and host various skill levels. Many Fillies live in the Portland Metro area, but a few travel from as far as Salem and Tacoma to play the game they love. 2013 will be the Fillies fourth season with an experienced group of veterans and a promising group of rookies.

This final home game is fan appreciation day.

“Come support us and allow us to thank you for that support,” said Wiscarver. “We will be taking donations to help the victims of the devastating tornados in Oklahoma.”
