University of Portland and Portland State University will come together to host a Youth Basketball Clinic and officially introduce its men’s basketball teams at Pioneer Square on Wednesday, Sept. 25th from 4-6 p.m.

The clinic will be open to all kids, while fans can swing by any time after 11:30 a.m. for a chance to win season tickets and other giveaway items throughout the day.

Members of the Boys & Girls Club of Portland will be bussed to Pioneer Square for the 4 p.m. team introductions and clinic. All kids are welcome to come down and sign up for the free clinic as well, but a signed consent form must be filled out in advance.

“This is a great opportunity to partner with Portland State and showcase quality Division I basketball right here in the city,” said Scott Leykam, University of Portland Director of Athletics. “I think Portland is a great basketball city with passionate fans. We jumped at the chance to showcase our talented student-athletes, while also using our relationship with Boys & Girls Club of Portland to provide a valuable free clinic to kids.”

“Portland is home to two outstanding Division I basketball programs,” added Torre Chisholm, Portland State Athletics Director. “The clinic, located in the heart of the city, is an opportunity to celebrate college basketball in our community. Plus, as sports become increasingly more competitive, and occasionally confrontational, it’s great to collaborate with another University on a worthwhile community endeavor.”

University of Portland is a member of the West Coast Conference located in North Portland and will play a total of 15 home games at the Chiles Center this season. Head coach Eric Reveno returns for his eighth season with the Pilots and returns four starters, nine lettermen and adds four promising newcomers to the 2013-14 roster.

The Pilots open the season with an exhibition game versus Concordia-Irvine on Saturday, Oct. 26 at 3:30 p.m. and then have the regular season opener against UC Davis on Friday, Nov. 8 at 7 p.m. at the Chiles Center.
