Why you should root for them

blazersThe Portland Trail Blazers are the only professional sports team in Oregon from America’s four most popular leagues: NFL, MLB, NHL and NBA – not to mention the only NBA team north of Sacramento and west of Salt Lake City.

Without the Sonics in Seattle, the Blazers are literally the only show in town when it comes to Pacific Northwest basketball. But that’s not the only reason you need to fall in love with Rip City.

In 1977 the Blazers won their first and only championship. From that year until 1995, the team packed the stands for the longest sellout streak in American sports history – 814 straight games. It wasn’t until they moved into the larger Rose Garden (now the Moda Center) that their streak came to an end.

But this year, especially, the Blazers have been one of the hottest teams in all of the NBA. It took them just 44 games to win as many times as they did all of last season (33). They’ve been living at the top of many experts’ Power Rankings all season while leading the NBA in offense. What’s more, ESPN is currently projecting Terry Stotts as the 2014 Coach of the Year.
